TraceSpec Engineering Use & Reliance Statement
Effective date: 29 August 2026 Last updated: 31 August 2026
TraceSpec is a specialist trace heating design decision-support tool for professional and business users.
This Engineering Use & Reliance Statement explains how TraceSpec outputs should and should not be used. It forms part of the TraceSpec Terms of Business.
1. TraceSpec is a decision-support tool
TraceSpec supports professional heat tracing design workflows by helping users perform thermal calculations, compare cable candidates, assess suitability, review constraints and generate design reports.
TraceSpec is designed to support competent professionals. It does not replace competent engineering judgement, site verification, manufacturer documentation, compliance review or professional sign-off.
2. TraceSpec does not provide final approval or certification
TraceSpec does not provide, replace or constitute:
- final design certification;
- safety sign-off;
- hazardous-area classification or compliance approval;
- ATEX, DSEAR, IECEx, NEC, CEC or other legal/regulatory compliance assessment;
- manufacturer approval, endorsement or product certification;
- procurement approval;
- installation design;
- commissioning approval;
- product recommendation;
- professional engineering sign-off;
- legal, safety or compliance advice.
All final engineering, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, operational and safety decisions remain the responsibility of the user/customer and their competent professionals.
3. Outputs depend on user inputs and assumptions
TraceSpec outputs depend on information entered, selected, uploaded or approved by users, including:
- design basis;
- project data;
- line lists;
- pipe/vessel/drum/IBC geometry;
- insulation details;
- ambient and process conditions;
- temperature maintenance or heat-up requirements;
- control assumptions;
- electrical assumptions;
- product constraints;
- hazardous-area context;
- standards and site requirements selected or considered by the user.
If the inputs or assumptions are incomplete, inaccurate, inappropriate or out of date, the outputs may also be incomplete, inaccurate, inappropriate or unsuitable.
Users must verify all inputs, assumptions and outputs before relying on them.
4. Manufacturer data must be verified
TraceSpec may include product and cable data derived from publicly available manufacturer datasheets and related materials.
Manufacturer data can change. Product availability, approvals, certifications, performance ratings, temperature ratings, sheath options, output curves, installation requirements and limitations may be updated, withdrawn or superseded.
Before specifying, purchasing, installing or operating any product, users must verify current manufacturer datasheets, installation instructions, certifications and technical requirements.
5. Candidate rankings and suitability scores
TraceSpec may display candidate rankings, suitability scores, selected candidates, warnings, review notes or “no viable candidates” outputs.
These are decision-support outputs only. They do not guarantee that a candidate is safe, compliant, approved, available, commercially optimal or suitable for a particular project.
A high-ranking candidate is not automatically the correct final design choice.
A “no viable candidates” output means that no viable candidate has been identified within the TraceSpec library and selected calculation context at that time. It does not prove that no suitable product exists outside the library or under a different design basis.
6. Warnings and flags are not exhaustive
TraceSpec may highlight constraints, warnings, review points or potential issues.
Warnings and flags may not identify every relevant engineering, safety, installation, compliance, commercial, manufacturer or site-specific issue.
Absence of a warning does not mean that a design, product, installation or application is safe, compliant, suitable or approved.
Users remain responsible for full professional review and verification.
7. Hazardous-area applications
TraceSpec may support engineering workflows involving hazardous-area applications.
However, TraceSpec does not perform or replace hazardous-area classification, ATEX/DSEAR/IECEx compliance assessment, product certification verification, installation approval or safety sign-off.
Users are responsible for verifying that any selected product, design, control method, installation method, documentation and operating condition are suitable for the applicable hazardous area and regulatory regime.
Any hazardous-area design must be reviewed and approved by appropriately qualified personnel before specification, procurement, installation, commissioning or operation.
8. Standards, laws and local requirements
TraceSpec may refer to standards, regulations, codes or engineering practices. Such references are for workflow and decision-support context only.
Users are responsible for identifying and complying with applicable laws, standards, codes, approvals, site rules, client requirements, local electrical regulations, installation requirements, hazardous-area requirements and professional obligations.
9. Reports and exported outputs
TraceSpec reports are intended to support professional review, communication and documentation. They are not final certification, safety approval, manufacturer approval or installation sign-off.
Reports should be read together with their assumptions, warnings, exclusions, version references and calculation context.
Users must not remove or obscure TraceSpec disclaimers, warnings or version references in a way that could mislead recipients about the status, limitations or basis of the report.
10. Versioning and changes
TraceSpec may update calculation methods, scoring, assumptions, warnings, product-library data, report formats and workflows over time.
Outputs and reports are associated with the calculation context, product data and software version available at the time they are generated or exported.
Later changes to TraceSpec do not automatically update, validate or invalidate historical outputs or reports.
11. Commercial independence and manufacturer references
Manufacturer names, product names, trademarks and technical references belong to their respective owners.
Unless expressly stated, TraceSpec is independent of manufacturers and is not endorsed, approved, sponsored by, or affiliated with them.
TraceSpec rankings and suitability scores are based on TraceSpec’s engineering methodology, user inputs, product data available to TraceSpec and applicable constraints. Commercial arrangements with manufacturers do not determine ranking position.
12. Report disclaimer
TraceSpec calculations and suitability scores are generated using manufacturer performance data and user-provided project inputs. Results are intended as engineering decision-support guidance only and must be reviewed and validated by suitably qualified personnel prior to detailed design, procurement, installation, or construction. Actual system performance may vary depending on installation methods, operating conditions, data accuracy, and manufacturer tolerances.
